The Health Vistors Team

The health visiting team based at Parkside cover families who are registered with both Parkside Medical Centre and Whaddon House Surgery.

Your health visitors are Evelyn Hammond, Salay Songa, Kim West and Lucy Milligan.  Liz Wheelhouse is the registered nurse.  The team are available Monday to Friday 9-5 on 01908 364810/11/12. If we are not in the office please leave a message and we will get back to you asap but please note, we cannot guarantee this will be on the same day.  If you need to speak to someone urgently you can access NHS Direct on 111, your GP surgery or the walk-in centre.  In an emergency, please attend A&E.

The role of the Health Visitor

Health Visitors are registered nurses with additional training in child, family health and midwifery. As part of the wider Health Care Team they work closely with GP’s and other services, promoting the health and well-being to meet the changing needs of the local community.

If you have children under five years old, your health visitor or another health professional will see you several times to talk about how you and your child are getting on.

This may include:

  • When you are over 25 weeks pregnant
  • When your baby is 10 to 14 days old
  • When your baby is 6 to 8 weeks old
  • When your baby is 3 to 4 months old
  • When your baby is 6 to 12 months old
  • When your child is 2 to 2 ½ years old

We can also help you to learn the skills you need to be the best parent you can.
Health Visitors can provide more help for families including:

  • Feeding
  • Colic & reflux
  • Milk intolerance and allergies
  • Constipation
  • Rashes (eczema & nappy rash & chicken pox)
  • Sleep
  • Behaviour difficulties
  • Toilet training
  • Teething
  • Sticky eyes

We also work with other agencies and organisations when your family might need ongoing support, for example if you are looking after a disabled child or if you are experiencing family difficulties.
