Peak Flow Reversibility Test

A peak flow meter is used to measure lung function and can be used from the age of 8 years upwards.

Accurate record of height also age and sex.

Best of three peak flow readings are taken.

Reversibility testing involves– peak flows taken after 2-4 puffs of an inhaler called salbutamol, wait 15 minutes then repeat peak flows again.

The asthma nurse will explain the results to you.

Other tests may include; peak flow diary for 2 weeks or steroid inhaler trial.
